Firefighters rescue a cat stuck on an electric pole

That's especially so in the case of this cat, which does its very best to avoid rescue from a potentially disastrous situation.
How it found itself stuck up this particular lamp post on this particular day is unclear, but what is clear is that it thinks it knows best how to get down.
The drama begins at the 12-second mark of the video above - when we see the scale of the predicament this cat has found itself in.
Perhaps motivated by a sense of wounded pride, it shows little interest in the ladder extended to its vicinity by members of the Algerian Civil Defense.
Perhaps motivated by a sense of misplaced malice, it shows similarly scant regard for the civil defense member who draws the short straw and is tasked with climbing said ladder to retrieve the cat. (When you watch the video, watch for the relieved smile of one of the man's colleagues that he remains on the ground - that's about the 58-second mark.)

The feline's salvation is at hand when the man is within reach at the top of the ladder, but it's at the 1m29s-mark that the plot really thickens.
Perhaps motivated by a misplaced sense of adventure, the cat begins tightrope-walking across an electric wire to evade human intervention. At 1m39s the cat's footing slips leading to a heartstopping moment in which it nearly falls. Its grasp restored at the last moment, it moves on.
By the 2min mark quick-thinking civil defence members have grabbed a sheet to catch the cat, thereby beginning a tense standoff between animal and gravity.
At 2m26, another stumble leaves the cat in a frantic scramble to restore equilibrium. For the next 50 seconds the cat hangs precariously, refusing to accept defeat.
Then at 3m18s, someone grabs a pole and prods the cat until it falls off the cable, with its fall broken by a sheet carried by the civil defence members.
