BREAKING: Truck ploughs into pedestrians in Stockholm, crashes into shopping centre

A truck has been driven into pedestrians on a Stockholm street, according to local media.

The incident took place in Drottninggatan in central Stockholm shortly before 3pm local time, according to Aftonbladet. It reportedly crashed into a department store on Queen Street, and pictures on social media confirm the truck caught fire.

One witness cited by local reporters has said people were killed in the attack, and there were reportedly 'hundreds of people' running for their lives near the Ahlens mall.

Aftonbladet reported another witness saying the truck ran over at least two people.

A police spokesperson said officers were on the scene, responding to events.

The downtown area has been sealed off by security services.

Swedish radio is now reporting three people have been killed in the truck crash and shots have been discharged.

Terrorists have used trucks and cars to attack pedestrians in Nice, Berlin and Antwerp in recent months, in addition to the attack on London in March.

However there is currently no suggestion that the incident was terror-related or that it was linked to or inspired by the recent terror atrocities.
