Cinama Shahre Ghese

Cinama Shahre Ghese is a vibrant Iranian musical-fantasy that reimagines Bijan Mofid’s classic allegorical tale for the big screen. Set within a whimsical city populated by symbolic, animal-like characters, the film uses humor, music, and stylized performances to explore human behavior and social change. At the heart of the story is a once-harmonious community whose routines are disrupted by the arrival of a stranger. His presence exposes the fears, prejudices, and contradictions hidden beneath the city’s cheerful surface.

Each character represents a recognizable social type, and through lively songs and poetic dialogue, the film gently critiques conformity, ignorance, and the resistance to new ideas. The theatrical staging remains central to the film’s identity: painted sets, exaggerated costumes, and choreographed musical numbers create a dreamlike atmosphere that feels both playful and pointed.

As tensions rise, the city’s unity begins to fracture, revealing how easily suspicion can replace understanding. Yet beneath its satire, the film carries a hopeful message about empathy and transformation. By blending fantasy with social commentary, Cinema Shahr-e Gheseh honors its theatrical origins while celebrating the enduring power of storytelling, music, and imagination in confronting real-world anxieties.
