Roshan

Roshan is a 2024 Iranian social drama film written and directed by Rouhollah Hejazi, featuring acclaimed actor Reza Attaran in the titular role alongside Sara Bahrami and Siamak Ansari. The story centers on Roshan, a middle-aged man whose deep love for cinema and acting offers him solace amid a life unraveling under economic and personal strain. Once hopeful, Roshan now faces mounting struggles: his marriage is falling apart, his daughter lives apart, and the unfinished condo he invested in drains his remaining resources. Rather than confront reality, he retreats into the comforting world of films, often framing his life through imaginary cinematic lenses as a coping mechanism.

The narrative follows Roshan’s attempts to piece together a life that seems perpetually slipping away, crafting a poignant portrait of a man clinging to dreams when all else fails. The film contrasts moments of subtle humor with underlying melancholy, exploring themes of hope, disillusionment, and the escapist power of art. While some critics have debated its bleak portrayal of social issues, Roshan offers an empathetic look at an individual’s fight to find meaning amid adversity.
