Jahiziye

Jahiziye is an Iranian social drama that explores the emotional and financial pressures surrounding the tradition of dowry in contemporary society. The film centers on Ebrahim, a modest tailor living in a small town, who struggles to provide a proper dowry for his daughter as her wedding approaches. Faced with mounting debts and limited income, he is caught between preserving family honor and confronting the harsh realities of economic hardship.

As the story unfolds, the narrative highlights the silent sacrifices parents often make for their children, while also exposing the societal expectations that can push ordinary people to their limits. Ebrahim’s journey becomes a deeply personal battle, marked by dignity, resilience, and quiet desperation. His daughter, meanwhile, grapples with feelings of guilt and love, aware of the burden her future places on her father.

Through a restrained and realistic style, Jahiziyeh presents a poignant portrait of family, tradition, and social inequality. The film avoids melodrama, instead focusing on intimate moments that reflect broader cultural tensions, making it both a distinctly Iranian story and a universally relatable human experience.
