Nekbat Theatre

Nekbat (2026) is an Iranian filmed theatre production directed by Pouya Saeedi, based on the play Tape by American playwright Stephen Belber. The production was originally staged at Tehran’s Iran Shahr Theatre before being released as an online filmed theatre experience. The story centers on three old acquaintances whose reunion in a small motel room gradually exposes uncomfortable memories, hidden resentments, and conflicting versions of the past.

As the conversation develops, what initially appears to be a simple meeting becomes an intense psychological confrontation. Each character remembers past events differently, forcing them to question friendship, loyalty, morality, and the reliability of memory. The confined setting gives the production an intimate and increasingly tense atmosphere, while sharp dialogue drives the story forward.

The cast features Kazem Seyahi, Mojtaba Pirzadeh, and Setareh Pesyani, whose performances bring emotional depth and complexity to the characters. The production explores themes of deception, guilt, betrayal, personal responsibility, and the ways people reshape their memories to protect themselves.

Nekbat is best described as a social psychological drama, with a strong emphasis on dialogue, character conflict, and moral questions. Its theatrical style and thought-provoking subject matter make it particularly appealing to audiences interested in serious Iranian drama and character-driven stories.
