Norooz

Norooz is a heartwarming Iranian drama that captures the spirit, tensions, and quiet transformations that occur around the Persian New Year. Set in a small contemporary Tehran neighborhood, the film follows three intertwined families as they prepare for Nowruz, each confronting personal challenges that mirror the renewal symbolized by the holiday. At the center of the story is Sara, a young woman torn between honoring her family’s expectations and pursuing a life she truly desires. Her father, overwhelmed by financial pressures, tries to create a joyful holiday despite growing worries, while her grandmother—whose memories of past celebrations tie the family together—reminds everyone of the true meaning of renewal.

Parallel to Sara’s story, the film depicts a recently divorced neighbor searching for reconciliation with his son, and an elderly couple facing the uncertainties of aging as they attempt the traditional spring cleaning together. Their lives converge during the haft-seen preparations, revealing hidden emotions, unresolved conflicts, and moments of unexpected kindness.

Through gentle humor, layered performances, and beautifully textured scenes of New Year rituals, Nooruz explores the universal themes of hope, forgiveness, and rebirth. It ultimately celebrates the resilience of ordinary people who find light even in difficult times.
